INTRODUCTION TO SHODO (JAPANESE CALLIGRAPHY).
5 CLASS SESSIONS NEXT CLASS DATES: January, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th and February 6th. 6:30-8:00 pm. Please be sure that you can commit to all class sessions so that you can get the most of the instruction presented! CLASS DETAILS: During this 5-week course, students will learn the basics of traditional Shodo, including proper care of tools, correct posture, and brushstroke techniques. All materials will be provided by your instructor. Students ages 16 and up are welcome to attend. (Minors should be accompanied by an adult). 10 students maximum. Please note: This class takes place on the second floor of our facilities and can only be accessed by stairs at this time. Your Instructor:
Mayumi Soeda Sensei is from Nagasaki Japan and has a strong passion for Japanese language and literature. She has a master's degree in linguistics from Nagasaki University and a bachelor’s degree in Japanese literature from Kumamoto University. Soeda Sensei has been a licensed teacher for middle and high school Japanese literature for 32 years and specializes in teaching Japanese language at the university level. Furthermore, she also successfully passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test, demonstrating her expertise in this field. In addition to her teaching qualifications, Mayumi San is a Japanese calligraphy instructor (Shodo) with a 5 Dan level of expertise in calligraphy with a Level 2 achievement in the Kanji Proficiency Exam. She is married and has 2 grown children.
